The story of this foreign media employee’s detention sends chills down the spines of any expatriate working, living, and investing in China.

The article published today on Zeit Online, the website for one of the biggest publications in Europe, comes from former China-based journalist Angela Köckritz and describes the detention of her colleague Zhang Miao. That detention is still ongoing.

A video shown by television station TVB allegedly catches a 4-minute act of brutal beating by Hong Kong police of a protester last night.

Foreigners working and living in Hong Kong are advised by foreign consulates to stay away from protest sites as the Chinese government and the Hong Kong government appear to be dealing with the once-peaceful protest by more violent means.

The Hong Kong MTR’s app just sent a message to all users stating no underground subways will stop at the Admiralty Station for the indeterminate future. Admiralty is the location for many of the Occupy Central protests and many Hong Kong government offices.
