Police in China yesterday evening released the five female activists who were detained last month days ahead of a pro-equality protest they had planned for International Women’s Day on March 8. Activists Wei Tingting, Zheng Churan, Li Tingting, Wang Man and Wu Rongrong were all freed but will be be under police surveillance for a year and will face travel restrictions, attorney Liang Xiaojun was cited as saying. Police will be able to detain them again or take them in for further investigation at any time, Liang added.
