Pollution be damned. The average Beijinger can expect to live to be 82, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning said in a report.
The exact figure is 81.95 years, up 0.14 years over the 2014 figure. The number is averaged between men and women, with women living to about 84, and men closer to 80.
The three leading causes of death were “cancer [all], heart diseases, and cerebral vascular diseases,” the report said.
Perhaps the most shocking element of the report is that “Beijing medical institutions registered 240 million patient visits, up 50 percent from five years ago.” Although this almost certainly includes people from outside of Beijing using local hospitals, based on Beijing’s population, that would mean every one of Beijing’s 21 million people each visited a hospital more than 10 times during the year.
