Famed art star, musician, and John Lennon widow, Yoko Ono is set to exhibit a variety of works from her extensive artistic career at the Faurschou Foundation in 798. This will be her first solo exhibit in Beijing, and will focus primarily on early pieces from her legendary Fluxus and conceptual periods of the 60s and 70s.

Yoko Ono is known for making work that’s ephemeral and engaging through instruction and action to create a shared mental and physical experience between her and the viewers. One piece that will be present during the exhibition, ‘Ceiling Painting (YES Painting)’ from 1966, is known to have sparked the relationship between her and John Lennon on the day before her London opening of Unfinished Paintings And Objects in 1966. Here’s how he described the experience:
“There was another piece that really decided me for-or-against the artist: a ladder which led to a painting which was hung on the ceiling. It looked like a black canvas with a chain with a spyglass hanging on the end of it. This was near the door when you went in. I climbed the ladder, you look through the spyglass and in tiny little letters it says ‘yes’. So it was positive. I felt relieved. It’s a great relief when you get up the ladder and you look through the spyglass and it doesn’t say ‘no’ or ‘f*#k you’ or something, it said ‘yes’.”
She will be present at the press preview, but the opening for the public is on Nov 15, and the show will be up until Jul 3. Don’t miss out on experiencing the art of this legendary figure. For more info, check out the Faurschou Foundation on the web or visit Ono’s own website at imaginepeace.com.
