1950s diner-themed chain Johnny Rockets has finalized a deal to open 100 outlets in China over the next 10 years, with the first store expected to open in 2016.
The first branches will open in Parkson department stores as part of a deal between the Malaysian company, which currently runs 60 outlets in China, and the Johnny Rockets’ franchise. Founded in the US in 1986, the Johnny Rockets brand already has locations in Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
In addition to the 1950s decor used in their stores (think individual jukeboxes, vintage Coca Cola advertising, and plenty of neon), Johnny Rockets is known for its made-to-order hamburgers and “hand-spun” milkshakes. Their slogan is “The Original Hamburger” and with the popularity of burgers in Beijing in recent years, we expect Johnny Rockets will open to an expectant audience.
