– AmCham China Conference Center

Please join us in celebrating Florence Fang, legendary Chinese female entrepreneur and philanthropist. Since moving to the US in 1960, Fang has dedicated herself to building a successful business career and promoting closer US-China relations. She has been nicknamed the daughter of both the US and China by China Daily and in 2014 received the "CCTV Brilliance of China" in recognition of her work to promote Chinese culture.

Fang serves as Chairwoman of the Florence Fang Family Foundation, which supports programs that connect the US and China. She is also a founding member of the 100,000 Strong Foundation, an offshoot of an Obama administration initiative that seeks to strengthen US-China relations through educational exchange and language learning. Passionate about education, Fang has donated millions of dollars to the University of California Berkeley’s East Asian Library and she funded the Florence Lee Fang School of Chinese as a Second Language at Peking University.

In one of her more recent endeavors, Fang has been serving as the Honorable Chairwoman of the Flying Tiger Historical Organization and the curator of the first overseers WWII Pacifical Memorial Hall in San Francisco. She has donated an original C-47 airplane that once flew over "The Hump" airlift route through the Himalayas; in September 2015, this plane will fly the same Hump route from Burma, across the Himalayas, to Guilin where it will be permanently displayed at the Flying Tiger Heritage Park as a symbol of the long-standing US-China relationship.

In her business career, Fang has been known as a tireless entrepreneur. She was previously the publisher of the San Francisco Examiner as well as a chairwoman for the Independent Newspaper Group, comprised of 14 local newspapers. She was at the helm of Asian Week and also served as president of the Chinese version of The Young China Daily and The China World News. She has successfully managed multiple businesses, and was twice awarded the California Woman of The Year, in 1990 and 2003.

On the occasion of Florence Fang’s 81st Birthday, AmCham China Women’s Professional Committee is honored to host a lunch with her to recognize her enormous contributions to fostering greater mutual understanding between China and the US and hear her reflections on the 70th anniversary of the end of WW2, US-China wartime cooperation and the Flying Tigers. Join us in honoring this remarkable woman.
