Residents of our planet’s northern hemisphere (that includes Beijingers) will get to see a rare celestial event today (Wednesday) just after sunset: a full lunar eclipse, or “blood moon.”
Just in time for Halloween, the moon turns a deep red color as it passes into the Earth’s shadow and sunlight passing through our dusty atmosphere filters out most other colors.
Sunset Wednesday evening takes place at 5.46pm, so while some of the eclipse will be technically visible the earliest parts of the event will take place below on the horizon.
Nothing will be visible until 6.27pm, and you’ll have to look east with an unobstructed view. Maybe it’s a good night to have a drink on a high floor?
