The UCI (International Cyclists Union), a governing body for international competitive cycling events, stated today that the Tour of Beijing race will be staged for the last time next month.
They have decided not to renew their annual five day race on the 2015 World Tour calendar after a four year run. From its onset, the Beijing tour had caused a stir in the international biking community because of its immediate rise to World Tour status, making it a requirement for all teams to attend, and seemingly for profit motivations in a highly regulated sport.
The final race take place next month on October 10-14. The race was initially launched in 2011 under previous UCI leaders and no reasons were given behind Beijing’s removal from the racing schedule, but there will be a press conference on Friday that will likely address the issue.
If you’re looking for some new old threads to gear up for the change in temperature in the coming weeks, you should head over to the Feige Vintage Fair over October holiday. This is the most encompassing market to ever hit the capital, featuring 50 plus booths from the city’s best vintage traders, collectors, independent designers, second hand books, jewelry, antique cameras, bikes, automobiles, and even gaming booths with special prizes.
It will go on at Wukesong Arena, from October 1-7 and there will be a RMB 35/day entrance fee. Check out the event listing for more details.
