These steel-framed bikes weigh as little as 9kg and have folded dimensions of less than 60cm, making them ideal for carrying onto planes or trains, or smuggling onto the subway.

Designed and perfected in London over the last 30 years, Brompton Junction’s bikes also come with an authentically British price tag. While basic models begin at around ¥10,000, their sheer portability ensures you won’t need to leave your valuable new bike chained up in the path of thieves.

The store’s enthusiastic staff completely folded and unfolded one of the bikes in less than 20 seconds, and assured us we too could reach those speeds with a little practice. The store also offers after-sales service and a range of accessories to customize your ride. By Garth Wilson
