It’s of crucial importance for senior management of Chinese companies operating in the United States to adjust their mindsets, remain open-minded to differences and get ready to work closely with local professionals in order to grow their American business. Otherwise, they will either go astray or perish.
So I’ve had this revenge fantasy for, I don’t know, maybe about fifteen years now. I’m working in the U.S. for a Chinese multinational company, and management comes to me to implement some new policy or business program. I argue with them, citing many cogent reasons why the policy is bound to fail. Ultimately they take out the trump card, telling me “This is company policy from Beijing. We need to do it.”
And my response: “Your new policy is unworkable. You just don’t understand U.S. business culture.”
Damn, that would be sweet though, considering that someone tells me the same thing about China roughly every other day.
