The "A Closer Look" series aims to shine a spotlight on the winners of the Beijinger 2016 Bar & Club Awards, to see why they came out on top as voted for by you, our readers.

In this year's Best Beer Selection category, Great Leap Brewing #12 Brewpub took the ultimate prize and it's no secret why. This brewpub has served us many a Honey Ma Gold's, as well as a whole plethora of unusual beers throughout the years – their creativity knows no bounds. As if one award wasn't enough, the greedy bunch went on to bag Best Local Craft Brewery, Best Bar Food, Outstanding Outdoor Drinking, and Best LGBT Friendly. Not only that, but last year Great Leap was also voted one of the best 150 Bars Worldwide (Outside the US) by The Daily Meal

Outstanding awards went to Heaven Supermarket and Paddy O'Shea's, both reliable options on the east side of town, although we prefer to use Heaven Supermarket the way it was intended: as a supermarket. That being said, for a rowdy-to-the-point-of-degeneracy atmosphere, and toilets that'll make you rethink the life decisions that led you inside, there's no better place on a Friday night to, well, frankly, get shitty. That's largely thanks to the fact that Heaven's beer selection emains one of the best in town and the bottles here tend to set the benchmark for what will be available and for what price everywhere else.

Paddy O'Shea's on the other hand is somewhere you can rely on for a good pint and decent grub, basically exactly what a pub should be. Over the years they've garnered a strong following through this simple formula and draw big crowds every Wednesday (8.30pm) for their solid pub quiz. It's no wonder then that the team also took home our ultimate prize: Bar/Club of the Year, as well as Best Sports Bar, Best Quiz Night, and Best Happy Hour.

Congrats to all our winners and cheers to many more years to come!
