For our 11th Annual Reader Bar & Club Awards we asked you to tell us which places they like to have a drink and get some work done, and you came back with a long list. The award category didn’t make the cut, but we couldn’t resist sharing with you your top spots right here on the blog. So without furter ado, we’d like to introduce your favorite cafes in Gulou:

Cafe Alba: Salads, sandwiches, and an ample supply of single malts and wine are served here.

“I tend to forget that this place exists, really. But whenever I actually get around to going there, I wonder why I don’t come back more often.”

Beiluo Bread Bar: “Mean beans and bad ass bread” is their motto for good food and coffee, and they’ve recently given the space a facelift.

“This is definitely a place to check out. Internet connection worked great too, which seems to be an issue in lots of places.”

Beetle in a Box: Excellent coffee and Belgian beer can be found at this quirky hipster hide-out.

“Beetle in a Box … is the ultimate Dongcheng hipster cafe.”

Cafe Zarah: Give your day a decadent start with a fresh coffee, or for the more extravagant, their fabulous Prosecco breakfast. Stay tuned here for more on their re-opening, remodeling, and new terrace.

“Sit outside and watch the passing parade on a Saturday morning, one of my favorite weekend past times.”

The Other Place: Sit quietly in this cafe/bar and get the good vibes going from music curated by The Other Shop.
