Brit pop legends Suede have confirmed they will join the lineup for this year’s Midi Festival. Weren’t they here last summer? I guess they are a incredibly popular band with a fair amount of star power, but can’t we find someone that wasn’t here last year to headline? Well there is still time to surprise us with something amazing. Lets step it up a notch Midi!
Other than that, Cold Cave who also came last year will be playing. If you are not aware, this band is pretty much follows the 80’s radio synth pop formula from the 80’s, like New Order and OMD and makes them a tad darker and colder for modern consumption. Moving on, there are a handful of other heavy rock bands from all of over the world and the classic domestic standbys like Nova Heart, Subs, and Randy Abel Stable. I am sure there will be plenty more updates leading up to the event on May 1-3.
In other news, tonight is the first night of X-Nights Festival. Make sure to make it down to Yugong Yishan for this awesome gig. Starting at 8pm, this is the first of three throughout April and May. This evening’s lineup includes Ligne De Front (Serge Teyssot-Gay & Paul Bloas from France) who are a live guitar and large canvas-painting duo who use abstract sounds to generate visual images. If you weren’t already aware, Serge Teyssot-Gay was a founding member of Noir Desir, arguably one of the most important French rock groups of the past 30 years. Also don’t miss Eric Boros from Vialka. I’ve never seen him perform solo before, but in Vialka he seriously shreds on guitar like nobody else since Fred Frith. If you are at all into interesting music on the absolute fringe of rock & roll this is the place to be tonight.
