Metaphorically miles away from its Gongti megaclub neighbors, JC Lounge is a chilled-out café by day and classy cocktail destination by night. The bar is managed by Taiwan native Paul Hsu, and he brings a dash of cross-straits flair to the bar’s drink and snack menu. We love the gongfu cha-style presentation of the Brick Tea (RMB100), a Cognac-based cocktail served in a cute clay teapot and cup. The rest of the drink list is divided into selections tailored to the tastes of ladies and gentlemen, but we think the classic Martini (RMB110) is the ideal beverage for either sex.

Inspired bar snacks pepper the brief food menu. Standouts include the whole prawn spring rolls (RMB75) and Hsu’s interpretation of night market favorite shouzhua bing (a fried pancake filled with beef and hot sauce, RMB28). During the day, the location is a popular spot for afternoon tea, and whenever you come, make sure to watch out for the multicolored display of toilet paper in the restrooms.
