Loki Natural Crystal DIY Shop is tucked out of sight on the fifth floor of the Taihao Building on Hongmei Lu. Inside its out-of-the-way space you’ll find an enormous table covered with sparkling beads formed from crystals and precious stones in every color, texture and level of metallic shine.

There are deep amethysts, creamy rose quartz, inky black obsidian and turquoise amazonite. Some stones are burnished smooth, while others are carved with patterns to catch the light for maximum glitter.

 

 

Loki Natural sells pre-made jewelry designed by its staff. But the main appeal of the shop is its jewelry-making classes at which customers can design and create their own original piece. The 90-minute classes are RMB120 each, with five for RMB400.

Customers choose their own beads from the collection (RMB2-20), and then learn how to twist and braid colored wires to hold the stones in place and create a bracelet or necklace.

Classes are by appointment only, so most of them are one-on-one, although Loki Natural also does parties and events. They have a second location in Pudong. Call two days in advance to book an appointment and create your own masterpiece of precious stones.
