Meet this week’s Fashionista

Name: Ekaterina (Katya) Mednikova

Occupation: Fashion designer

Nationality: Russian

Fashion Hate: Badly matched bra straps

Too Scared to Wear: Non-matching garments!

Favorite Celebrity Fashionistas: Victoria Beckham, Lucy Liu and Gwyneth Paltrow

Clever Catwalker  Katya is a natural fashion expert and one of our resident expat fashion designers. She studied Fashion and Clothing Construction at the Moscow State University of Design and Technology before moving to Beijing. Her fashion passion stems from growing up in the USSR, where she detested that “everyone [wore] the same style of clothes!”

In an effort to stand out from the crowd, Katya has been designing and making her own clothes since she can remember. She wears a glorious variety of exciting textures, and surrounds herself with beautiful accessories, trinkets, drapes and ornaments for inspiration.

This Fashionista loves details, and her outfits are carefully selected to compliment her skin tone and evoke elegance and femininity. She loves using exciting prints to add some spice to the chilly months, or unusual combinations such as her pink trousers and white coat to raise her spirits in the depths of winter.

For her weekend partying obligations, Katya will be spotted donning her go-to dress, a Missoni style (zig-zag pattern) calf-length cocktail dress, doused in distinctive shades of pink and with a pleasantly figure-hugging silhouette.

Katya (as we all are) loves the charm of Beijing’s roadside catwalk and has a few shopping tips for us all. Woo is an exciting Nanluoguxiang boutique full to the brim with any kind of scarf you could possible want.
