Who doesn’t wish they had more time to rest, relax and SLEEP? On March 14, join the world and lay down! World Sleep Day is coming up! What, you didn’t know that?! Yeah, I had no idea either.
World Sleep Day is an annual event that was organized by the brilliant committee of the World Association of Sleep Medicine. Oh, you weren’t aware that there was a World Sleep Day Committee? That makes the both of us. Since March 14, 2008 this wonderful (and what should be a national holiday) day has been celebrated on the third Friday of March. I wish I had known sooner, it would have been a great excuse to take a day off!
World Sleep Day aims to celebrate the benefits of good, healthy sleep and also to draw awareness to sleep disorders, the burden of sleep problems, medicine, education and social aspects. The burden of sleep problems and disorders threaten health and quality of life for as much as 45% of the world’s population. Getting a good night’s rest has many benefits; you look younger, memory retention is higher, you live a longer life, it improves concentration, and probably most important in an over-crowded city, it makes you nicer!
So go back to bed and take Friday off! It’s World Sleep Day! Just don’t tell your bosses City Weekend told you to do it.
