The labor of love of music and culture critic Jian Cui, Blakk is all glossy black walls and mirrored surfaces. The wares are all personally curated by Jian and run the gamut from obscurer-than-thou records to Chinese-language graphic novels to clothing, accessories and even perfume from independent designers around China. The wall on the left-hand side as you enter is dedicated to temporary art exhibitions.
When we visited, it was punk-inspired jewelry, and we’re told that the next one will be of artwork from Zhang Shouwang, better known as the lead singer of Carsick Cars and WHITE+.
