A sad day for craft cocktails, as one of the Beijing originals, Apothecary, goes the way of Parnas and shuts their doors in Nali Patio. Launched by famed Beijing barman Leon Lee (a former managing editor of this fine publication) and Chef Max E, since 2009 they have been serving up delicious drinks and food to the upper crust of Beijing's nightlife enthusiasts.
Although Apothecary's creative cocktails will be missed, there is already talk that they might reopen at a different location. Sources have cited a rise in rent at Nali Patio as the main reason for their sudden closure. Regardless, we will be anxiously awaiting their return to the scene and will desperately crave their special rendition of the hot buttered rum for the remainder of the winter. We're all feeling a little verklempt about the whole thing.
