Getting into Top US Schools: Successful Strategies – M2M Series
5:30 – 8:30 PM,
Thursday, February 12, 2015
– AmCham China Conference Center
This M2M seminar will be held in Chinese (此次M2M活动为中文).
The number of students from China studying at universities across the US has increased dramatically in the past decade. According to US government statistics, the number of undergraduate students from China in the US has doubled in the last two years, making China the top country of origin for international students. In addition, a growing number of younger Chinese children are also going to study in US high schools to be better prepared for college in the US.
This seminar, led by Steven Hendryx, former commercial minister counselor in the US Embassy, will address the top questions families have about studying abroad, including costs and what the differences are between private and public schools.
The seminar will cover the following topics:
-Introduction to the structure of the US education system
-How to find the right university for you
-The process and timeline of applying to a US university or high school
-Admission policies: how hard or easy is it to get into different schools
-The advantages of permanent residence (green card) to get into top schools, and to get employment after you graduate
Speakers:
Steven Hendryx, vice president of Henry Global Capital (HGC), also a graduate of MIT and Harvard University with an MBA from Stanford University, will kick off the discussion. As an admission interviewer with MIT and former commercial minister counselor in the US Embassy in Beijing, he has lived and worked in China over the past 30 years. As a graduate of top US universities – and the father of seven children – he has plenty of personal, first-hand experience in the US educational system.
Cynthia Yuting Yang, a full tuition waiver honored student, holds a master’s degree from the Andrew Young School of Public Policy, a top policy study school in the US.
