China is currently the largest importer, processor, and user of biotech-derived soybeans in Asia. There is a lot of information flying around in traditional and online media regarding biotechnology and its implications for China’s food security and food safety. Take these wild allegations: GMO foods can cause cancer and male infertility; GMO food is created by scientists combining different living organisms and therefore has nothing to do with the original food; it is against Mother Nature; Americans don’t eat GMO food, and all GMO crops produced in the US are exported.
The AmCham China Women’s Professional Committee and Agriculture Forum invite you to join an open forum led by US farm owners and a genetics researcher to talk about how and why they plant GMO crops on their farms, their views on GMO both as professional farmers and mothers, and other topics related to nutrition, food safety and biotechnology, including:
What is a GMO?
Are foods produced with GMO crops safe to eat?
Do GMO crops harm the environment?
Do Americans eat GMO food in their daily lives?
What are American attitudes toward GMO?
What’s the situation with GMO products in US market?
Are foods produced with GMO ingredients widely available in the US?
Do foods produced with GMO ingredients need to be labeled in the US?
This event is free of charge. The meeting will be followed by a reception with catered appetizers. A bottle of soybean oil will be presented to all attendees.
