Let me start by saying that I admit that as a Brit I am perhaps not the best qualified to comment on Thanksgiving menus, but I'd like to think I know a good celebratory dinner when I see one. So, without further ado, read on for my picks of the best places to get your Thanksgiving fix this year.
Gluttonous Gourmet: Chi Restaurant's First Thanksgiving Feast
Chi Restaurant on Wudaoying is making its first foray into the world of Thanksgiving feasting with a slap up dinner that not only features dishes like Gewurtztraminer-poached foie gras and potato-wrapped rabbit, but also roast turkey and stuffing made according to a recipe attributed to Marilyn Monroe that was uncovered in 2010. The five course menu costs just RMB 298. It's a small place, so I advise you book soon if you like the sound of the above.
The Non-Traditional: Jing A x Traitor Zhou's Thanksgiving
Jing A is teaming up with Max Lexy, the brains behind Traitor Zhou's and Okra 1949, to offer a Cajun-inspired menu including among other things, mala sausage and smoked duck gumbo, pine needled smoked andouille with pickled okra, and The Traitor's Famous Fried Chicken. Dont' even try and pretend you don't want to eat that. Round up three friends (dinner is RMB 800 per group of four when booked in advance) and grab a seating at 6pm or 8pm. Can't make it on Thanksgiving night? They'll be serving up "Thanksgiving leftovers Pub Grub" on Friday November 28.
Best Value: Lily's American Diner
Ah good ol' reliable Lily's. If you're keen to dine out for Thanksgiving without putting too much strain on the purse strings, this is your best bet. For just RMB 129 per person they are serving a three course menu including a starter of garden salad or turkey noodle soup, a main course of turkey and all the trimmings, and a dessert of pecan pie, apple pie or chocolate brownie. Bonus points for having locations in Shuangjing, Sihui and Sanlitun. They are also offering home delivery or ready-roast turkeys: see their website for more details.
Get Outta Town: The Brickyard's Thanksgiving Package
Make Thanksgiving a proper occasion with a stay at the Brickyard. Their special price RMB 2388 package for two includes private transfer from Beijing, a night's stay in a superior Great Wall view queen room, and a thanksgiving feast at the Schoolhouse. Dinner is served family style, accompanied by house wine and with a dessert buffet for afters. If you just want dinner, it will cost you RMB 388, with the option to add return travel on their bus for RMB 80.
